Violeta Alvarez is living in New York City and is a known for Rock n Roll Documentary Portraits and photographing sub-cultures in America. Photographer & Artist, Violeta Alvarez was born and raised in Houston, where she developed an interest in art in general and photography in particular at an early age. Growing up, her major influences in her life are her mother, Godfather- Hardwood Taylor know and Godmother - Cynthia Rowan Taylor, and Robert Rauschenberg. Fresh out of high school she was hired by Randall Jamail to work at his record label, Justice Records. The position afforded Ms. Alvarez a unique opportunity to explore her passion for photography. While at Justice Records, she captured images of many prominent music figures including Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Supersuckers, Twisted Willie, Tab Benoit, Reverend Horton Heat, Jesse Dayton, Road Kings, and Horace Pinker, among others.
The pursuit of an education prompted a move to New York City where Ms. Alvarez attended the Pratt Institute of Design, studying Art History and Film. The academic career continued at the prestigious Parsons The New School of Design in Manhattan as Photography major at Parsons she had the good fortune to learn from important and influential artists such as Bill Gaskins, and Charlie Harbutt (two time former president of Magnum Photos) while honing her craft. Living in New York City, valuable experience was gained interning for world renown photographer, David Lachapelle, who has achieved great success and acclaim with vibrant, electric images from both the fashion industry and the world of entertainment. Later, she had the pleasure of working for Danny Clinch, known mostly for his amazing black and white images of musicians.
When not working on commissioned projects or freelance gigs: she researches for grants opportunities’ to continues her work on the documentary photographic series, Mexican America Culture and Alter & Shrine series and is in pre- production on projects entitled the Red Curtain Series: Delusion of Grandeur, Traces of Memory, The Perfect Family, The Domestic Staff, Mi Familia in Mexico, Dead of the Dead Portraits, Psychobilly!, and The Blood Type Series; and a future project, The Wallpaper Landscape Series, an installation project intended for City Hospital Mental Ward units.
Violeta Alvarez, strives to provide superior photography, post production, photo retouching and design services for Individuals, Galleries and Corporations the world over. Her services have been used for Editorial, Music, Events, Advertisements, Entertainment, Portraits, as well as purchased as Fine Art and is part of private art collections. Another service she provides is photographing private art collections for individuals and available to extend her services to Corporations & Galleries. Our main focus continues to be in the documentation of sub-culture and portraits that Document and highlight the range of human emotion. Ms. Alvarez, has The ability to elicit a response on a human emotional level, whether the setting is in the recording studio, portrait session, or at a ceremony; the moments captured within the images allows one into her perspective of the world.
